Cadillac Eldorado

There are people who buy small cars. Which is completely nonsensical, of course, because you can also buy large cars. Big cars have big advantages. You can find them more easily in overcrowded parking lots because they always look out a long way. While a normal car driver has to drive to the green waste container three times, the owner of such a Cadillac only has to drive once. The tank also fits more and if the doctor tells you to exercise, you can walk around the car. In no more than 10 minutes you will be around once. There is one drawback, however: it only has four ashtrays – although the car is approved as a six-seater.

The essential thing, however, is the unbelievable comfort and serenity of the drive. You don’t just drive off, you cast off. It is a special engineering achievement to build a seven-liter V8 cylinder that only produces 179 hp. But it has an enormous torque. In plain language, this means that the car can usually be moved slightly above idle speed. Because of this, the fuel consumption is also much lower than expected. Terms that are increasingly being forgotten, such as “running culture” and “smooth gliding”, are once again becoming current terms here. The “splendid isolation” is also pronounced, like in a Rolls-Royce: the door closed, the world stays outside. You sit extremely comfortably on leather cushions in your own closed realm. Behind green-tinted glass you can see the world from a different angle through a hood the size of a tennis court. Why are they all in such a hurry out there? When the roaring AMGs and GTIs hit your ears – it doesn’t matter, not in here. It glides across the street like a 200 foot yacht across the sea from St. Tropez. The Cadillac Eldorado is a land yacht.

It also impresses with automatically switching on headlights (1977!), Astonishing handiness and a downright playful light steering. Electric seats and windows, cruise control and air conditioning are a matter of course.

This 1977 Cadillac Eldorado is in unusually good original condition: Still in the factory paint, with original factory interior and factory carpets. Everything very well preserved and cared for. He only had two owners in Canada and one since he came to Germany in 2014. The correspondence between the German owner and the widow of the first owner shows that the speedometer reading also corresponds to the actual mileage. As of today that’s 56,862 miles or 90,979 km. The first owner bought the Cadillac as a new car in 1977 and sold it after 30 years (!) In 2007 with only 36,900 miles. His name is still on the warranty card.

Its current owner recognized the unusually good quality and originality of this Cadillac Eldorado and brought it to Germany in 2014. Here it was thoroughly checked, serviced and tüvt. He was awarded the H license plate straight away. It’s really worth it here, because the Cadillac only costs € 191, – vehicle tax per year. He has been admitted in Stuttgart for 7 years.

A great automobile for which one would like to apply for monument protection. Because there will never be a car like this again.
